The gardening and small farming alternatives for those who do not have gardens or vegetable gardens at home proliferate, increasingly. Today we bring you a Portuguese project which encourages the cultivation of organic foods in reduced spaces, using reusable materials â€" the Life in the Bag.

The idea is born from the hands of a couple of Vila Nova de Famalicão-Alexandra Silva, designer and teacher of 45 years, and Pedro Veloso, computer engineer 40 years â€" and dating back five years ago, with the creation of a vegetable garden in the backyard. Over time, the couple was experiencing different cultivation techniques, acquiring knowledge, experience, and even create a greenhouse. "The enthusiasm was growing and we started to realize that we could grow our own vegetables and herbs organically grown using techniques," says Alexandra Green Savers.

The step forward came when they started taking sowings and vessels for indoors, especially in winter. From there, have sought to allow other people with no knowledge of agriculture backyard or replicate their methods of cultivation of healthy foods and start in this practice.

The Life project in the Bag offers products that allow you to create a garden of aromatic herbs and small organic vegetables indoors. "We want to combine nature, design and originality, so that it is also a different alternative in time to offer a gift," explains Alexandra.

There are bags for cultivation of aromatic herbs (Grow Bag)-parsley, cilantro, Basil and Arugula â€" and microvegetais boxes (Grow Box) â€" radish, broccoli and Arugula. The duo uses a steel box with Cork cover, waterproof bags, kraft paper substrate and organic seeds. "Our materials are reusable and enable the conscientious consumption, contributing in this way to environmental sustainability."

Alexandra reveals that project plans are to introduce a wider variety of aromatic herbs, fruits and flowers. "We will have new products based entirely in Cork and, because it is important to create an early ecological awareness and a commitment to the environment, are in the final stages of developing products aimed at children," said.

In the experimental stage, there are already products with automatic watering and other bioponia-based. The Life in a Bag is trying to reconcile new technologies with their products â€" from QR codes in the instructions to an app for notifications.

"We intend to increase the product offering but always with a commitment to the environment, respecting the way are produced and choosing who can resell," he explains. Take the products Life in the Bag to other European Union countries is also one of the objectives of Alexandra and Peter.

All kits are produced by the couple in their home. Can be purchased through the online store, the new Portuguese life store in Largo do Intendente, in Lisbon, and in the Club Shop MasterCook, in Vila Nova de Famalicão.

Prices vary between € 8 ($ 25) for bags of cultivation of aromatic herbs and the € 10 ($ 31) and € 25 ($ 78) for the cultivation of microvegetais. Organic seeds are available for € 2 ($ 6).
