50 companies produce 73% of greenhouse gas emissions in the world (with LIST)
A new study found that only 50 companies around the world are responsible for 73% of 3.6 billion tons of greenhouse gases emitted by the 500 largest companies globally. Most polluting enterprises are part of the energy sector and have done little to change their behaviors â" CDP Global 500 Report Climate Change 2013 shows, in fact, that the 50 Giants have become even more polluters over the past four years. The report calculates and analyzes emissions from Global 500 largest companies. The results show that Wal-Mart, Bank of America, Bayer, Samsung and Verizon are among the biggest offenders. The 50 largest companies managed to increase their emissions in 1.65% since 2009. This represents, according to the report, "the disparity between strategies, goals and reductions in emissions of companies that are required to limit global warming to 2° C".Power companies are, in many ways, the worst in this scenario â" are doing the minimum to change their habits and have the highest global emissions from all sectors. The report, for its part, emphasizes that efforts to reduce emissions of the energy sector are essential for the overall reduction of climate change.Since 2009, global emissions of the 10 largest emitters of the energy sector increased by 53%. The sector also has the largest number of companies without emission reduction targets â" 24%.Read the report and see, below, the slide that represents the list of the 50 largest emitting greenhouse gases in the world.
