H&M Portugal has collected nine tonnes of clothes to recycle (with video)

In February, the Swedish brand H&M has launched a global campaign to recycle clothing, an initiative that seeks to "close the cycle of textiles" and make fewer and fewer clothes go up in the landfills.

In this campaign, no matter the brand or the State of the clothing. She may have holes, tears or be out of fashion for many years. In Exchange for clothes, the H&M offers € 5 discount on purchases of € 30.

"People can go to the H&M every day, delivering up to two bags of laundry per day. at this point, the campaign still only covers articles of clothing, but maybe in the future it may be possible to deliver accessories and shoes," said the green economy Ines Fontoura, head of H&M showroom.

The project started in only five stores, but it is possible to deliver articles of clothing used in all stores. So far, the Portuguese already delivered nearly nine tons of clothes. At the same time, the I:CO (I:Colect), partner of H&M in this action, offers €0,2 for every pound collected a solidarity institution of the respective country.

All parts are sent to Switzerland, being recycled, reused or resold. According to the Swedish brand, about 95% of the clothing thrown away can be recycled, and many textiles are transformed into new clothes, cleaning cloths or textiles for the automotive industry.
