Traversing the United States by public transport?

Who ever heard or read an American to praise Europe's transport system? This has a context: in the United States the car is King, and hardly anyone can traverse the country-the-lés solely by public transport.

It's difficult, but not impossible. The American Intercity Bus Riders Association just created a map showing all Intercity links the United States, including companies like Amtrak and Greyhound.

According to the map, you can catch a train that takes us from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, California â€" are 60 hours of travel, but it is possible! The path is actually quite simple: just spend 6:0 pm from Washington Union Station for Chicago Union Station, and after other 43 hours from Chicago to Los Angeles Union Station, on the Southwest Chief. A small jump.

The same journey takes five hours, by plane, and 38 hours by car.

The draft of the map is very interesting, but ultimately enhance weak American public transportation network. In Europe and Asia, the high speed train is by far the best means of transport. In the United States will not be entirely true.

Still, if you want to explore the North American continent without renting a car, see here all your chances (open PDF).
