New species of shark discovered in Indonesia

A new species of shark that appears to walk on the seabed, using their fins like feet, was discovered in eastern Indonesia and is being communicated since this morning. The shark has brown spots and white, is seen often during the night by the ocean and looking for fish and shellfish to feed, announces Conservation International, whose scientists participated in the discovery along with members of the Museum of Western Australia.

One of the particularities of this shark is the size â€" only 80 cm â€" and the fact that, from the outset, be harmless to humans. The discovery was made in Halmahera, Moluccas, West of New Guinea.

"[This new species] is an excellent Ambassador to draw public attention to the fact that most sharks are harmless to humans and deserve attention and conservation," said Ketut Sarjana Putra, director of Conservation International for Indonesia.

Christening of hemiscyllium halmahera, this shark was not known, however, for the indigenous population of the region, which has long knew him and knew his habits hunters.

This discovery also coincides with the green light given by the Indonesian Government for the protection of sharks and the increase in the marine tourism and conservation in the country.
